Brief Overview of the Characteristics of Wood Coatings

1. Phenolic varnishes dry quickly and offer high hardness, water resistance, and abrasion resistance; however, they tend to be brittle and prone to yellowing.
2. Nitrocellulose lacquers dry rapidly and produce a hard, wear-resistant finish that highlights the wood grain, though the film lacks fullness.
3. Alkyd-based paints are easy to apply, adhere strongly, and provide a glossy, full finish; they are commonly used for outdoor wood products (such as doors, windows, and railings) and steel structures. However, the coating is relatively soft and has poor water resistance, making it unsuitable for floors or tabletops.
4. Unsaturated polyester paints offer excellent film fullness and rapid drying, making them suitable for industrial assembly-line production.
5. Polyurethane paints provide excellent hardness, toughness, and abrasion resistance, along with a highly decorative finish, but they contain TDI.
